Cadillac is an American automotive manufacturing division of General Motors (GM). Cadillac acts as the luxury automotive marque of GM, offering more robust, safe, stylish, comfortable, and high-tech models than Buick, Chevrolet, or GMC.
Cadillac started from the remains of the Henry Ford Motor Company. After disputes with investors, Ford left the company and founded the Ford Motor Company. After deciding to stay in the automobile industry, a new company was established in 1902, called the Cadillac Automobile Company, named after the French explorer who founded Detroit, Michigan, in 1701. His coat of arms is also used for the iconic Cadillac logo.
Cadillac’s first cars were the Runabout and Tonneau “horseless carriage” models released in 1902, even then noted for their superior quality over competitors. In 1909, Cadillac was consolidated in General Motors, where it was eventually incorporated into GM’s vehicle hierarchy as the company’s top-line luxury marque. Additionally, GM used Cadillac for all of its early commercial vehicle construction, including ambulances, hearses, and limousines.
In the modern era, Cadillac is focused on improving and maintaining its presence as the “Standard of the World” with performance Blackwing models and the electrification of its catalog.
