The Jeep Gladiator is a midsize pickup truck model produced and sold by the Jeep division of Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)). The modern Gladiator is based on the Jeep Wrangler off-road SUV. However, the name dates back to a lineup of full-size trucks first introduced in the 1960s.
The first run of Jeep Gladiator (SJ) models (also known simply as the Jeep Pickup or J-Series) ran from 1962 to 1988 under numerous ownerships, including Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, American Motors (AMC), and finally Chrysler. This single generation was composed of full-size pickup truck models based on the Jeep Wagoneer.
The modern Jeep Gladiator (JT) was introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show as a midsize pickup truck. A successor to the Jeep Comanche that was discontinued in 1992, the new Gladiator is currently the only American pickup truck model that still comes with a manual transmission. The competitors of the new Gladiator truck include the Chevrolet Colorado, the Ford Ranger, the Honda Ridgeline, the Nissan Frontier, and the Toyota Tacoma.
