Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer with North American operations in Irvine, California. The company produces SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks, and sports cars known for their signature handling and sleek design. Mazda also makes electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models.
Businessman and industrialist Jujiro Matsuda founded the automaker as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. in 1920 in Hiroshima, Japan, where the company is still headquartered. Its name changed to Mazda Motor Corporation in 1984. “Mazda” originates from Ahura Mazda, the god of harmony, wisdom, and intelligence, from an ancient Asian civilization.
