Typically used trucks offer an excellent way to save. However, picking the right pickup truck makes a difference. To save you time and hassle, an experienced mechanic is sharing three unreliable options to watch out for.

Three used trucks that a mechanic is warning you about 

CEO of Truck1, Tomasz Mazurkiewicz, knows his trucks. He even made a successful career in the trucking industry. As a way to help fellow drivers, Tomasz shared three full-size used trucks that are a bit risky to buy. 

1. The 2018 Ford F-150 

Tomasz recommends staying away from the first used truck, the 2018 Ford F-150. He shared that it’s a poorly functioning piece of machinery that’s plagued by transmission issues. Drivers may notice transmission problems such as rough down shifting. 

Not only does this put safety at risk, but it’s an expensive issue to fix. Plus, the EcoBoost engines are prone to early stall-outs and malfunctions. 

The 2020 F-150 has a reliability rating of 74 out of 100 from J.D.Power, which is close to being considered below average. Scores between 70 and 80 are average while scores between 81 and 90 are above average. 

2. The 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 

Sadly, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the next victim on the list. While it was designed to increase fuel efficiency, this truck plagues drivers with misfires and lifter failures. 

The lifter replacement and raptors start in the thousands. However, other complaints are related to the interior quality and tech glitches. Overall, the 2019 Silverado 1500 is a gamble. 

J.D.Power gave the 2019 Silverado 1500 a reliability score of 79 out of 100. That’s pretty close to making it into the above-average category. 

3. 2020 Nissan Titan 

The 2020 Nissan Titan completes this list of used trucks to avoid. The nine-speed automatic transmission is prone to shifting problems. It’s inconsistent, which ruins the driving experience. 

Plus, it lacks adequate towing and payload capabilities compared to rivals. Tomazs claims that it’s a bad option if drivers need a real workhorse. 

The 2020 Titan can tow up to 9,317 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,696 lbs. Meanwhile, the 2020 Ford F-150 can tow up to 13,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,309 lbs. 

Also, J.D.Power didn’t rate the 2020 Titan, but the 2021 model has a score of 79. Having a lower tow rating isn’t exactly a mechanical problem.
