Matthew Skwarczek started blogging in 2015 and focuses his writing on motorcycles and engineering science. A graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned his Master’s in Chemical Engineering, Matthew served as an applications engineer for BASF before joining MotorBiscuit in 2019.
In Matthew’s words, the visceral nature of riding requires you to be in the moment. Combined with his fascination in the analytics surrounding the building and designing of cars and bikes, both modern and classic, you’ll find his voice blends functionality and phenomena. He rides motorcycles and bicycles often, photographing them as well.
Matthew has contributed to Oppositelock and is now an alumnus. He plays Dungeons & Dragons and reads sci-fi and fantasy in his spare time, and appreciates the works of Peter Egan, Sam Smith, Brandon Sanderson, and Alex Goy.
Sometimes an automaker has to step outside the box in order to get attention. After it earned the ire of consumers by, among other things, charging a subscription fee for heated seats, BMW has decided to take another step outside with the 2021 BMW M4 Competition. On the surface at least, BMW might have missed …
Safety is usually what comes to mind when car buyers think of Volvo. But while the Swedish automaker is certainly very good at that, it also has a more performance-inclined side. Even before it founded Polestar, Volvo had gone racing with models like the 850R wagon. Plus, like many other automakers, it’s also had a …
Besides returning to King of the Baggers, for 2022 Indian is updating several of its motorcycles. Among them is the Indian Chief, which enters the 2022 model year with a new look, new frame, and new tech. And to help celebrate the Chief’s update and its 100th anniversary, four bike builders are crafting custom versions. …
It’s hard to overstate the Bonneville’s iconic status and importance to Triumph and its fanbase. Although it’s not the only classic-style bike on sale today, it’s arguably one of the most recognizable. And with an updated version about to hit dealers, I wanted to see what an earlier model was like to ride. So, I …
Although the world—and car sales—is starting to recover from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many problems still linger. And one of the biggest problems car companies are facing right now is a microchip shortage affecting everything from pickup trucks to muscle cars. But how widespread is this issue exactly? What caused it, and is it going …
History is littered with lost automotive treasures. Cars like the Bugatti ‘La Voiture Noire,’ despite or because of their value, have sometimes disappeared. Or, as is sometimes the case with concept cars, the spotlight faded, and they were discarded and forgotten. But occasionally, these missing masterpieces get found. This is exactly what happened to the …
After talking with the CEO of Riders Share, I naturally got curious about its kind of motorcycle rentals. Especially since, while I enjoy riding my Triumph Street Triple R, I like to window-shop for bikes. And since one of the best ways to truly test-drive/test-ride a vehicle is to rent it, that’s what I decided …
These days, Japanese and European brands, like Suzuki and Ducati, respectively, dominate the sportbike market. But in the past, other motorcycle companies have also tried to compete, some with more success than others. And now, their past attempts can be picked up on the used market. From the US, for example, there’s Buell, which is …
Vintage-style bikes might be all the rage, but some can be quite expensive. Royal Enfield, though, has made a name for itself by offering more affordable options. The Continental GT 650, for example, combines café racer styling with modern reliability for less than, say, the Triumph Thruxton. And now, the Indian brand has a new …
The Hellcat engine’s days might be numbered, but Dodge isn’t letting it go gentle into the good night. This is why, for 2021 only, there’s the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. But it’s not the only high-powered SUV available; it’s not even the only one Stellantis offers. There’s also the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Lamborghini’s …
Although gas-powered cars are slowly being supplanted by EVs, ICE technology will stick around for a while yet. This means that even after EVs go mainstream, we’ll still have to deal with vehicle emissions. And while they’re cleaner, electric cars and trucks carry environmental penalties of their own. However, some automakers are trying to address …
Body kits, whether they’re functional or not, are common car modifications. But only a few have risen to the point of being household names to enthusiasts. Japanese company RWB’s Porsche designs spring immediately to mind. And then there’s Rocket Bunny. What makes a Rocket Bunny body kit what it is? Firstly, ‘Rocket Bunny’ isn’t the …
