The side 3/4 view of a dark-gray 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL600 with its roof down by a Ferris wheel in a city parking lot

Cars and Bids Bargain of the Week: 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL600

While the next-gen SL is going to be AMG-only, not every previous version of Mercedes-Benz’s convertible was about outright performance. And if you look carefully, you can score a used example for not a lot of money. But, while not every SL was terribly sporty, a few offered some rather extreme engines. Such is the …

Bring a Trailer Bargain of the Week: 2005 Acura RSX Type S

If the regular 2021 TLX isn’t sporty enough for you, don’t worry, because Acura is about to release the TLX Type S. And it promises to be the first of several upcoming Type S models. However, this isn’t the first time the Japanese luxury brand has used that moniker. And this week on Bring a …

The Mercedes 600 Is a ‘Grossly’ Luxurious Classic Sedan

‘They don’t build them like they used to’ is a common phrase when people look at classic cars. And to be fair, for the most part, that’s actually for the better. Modern cars are more reliable and generally built to higher quality standards. However, for a small handful of vintage luxury cars, the expression still …

Local Motors’ Rally Fighter Is Open-Source Off-Road Awesome

Even looking past the upcoming SCG 008 Baja Buggy, there’s no shortage of high-speed off-road vehicles on sale today. However, that wasn’t always the case. True, rock-crawlers like the Wrangler and 4Runner have been around for years. But before the first Ford F-150 Raptor, no company really offered a heavy-duty Baja-ready dune jumper from the …

What Makes a Hovercraft Different From a Boat?

From high-end luxury yachts to small personal skiffs, potential boat buyers have plenty of ways to hit the waves. However, some ‘ships,’ like the amphibious Amphicar and the Sealander camper, stretch the definition of the term. And then there are hovercrafts. True, they can travel through water, but does that really make them boats? How …

A 1-of-1 1968 Shelby GT500 Mustang Prototype Could Be Yours

While the Shelby company helped tune a lot of cars over the years, few are as well-represented as the Mustang. And though Shelby American isn’t directly involved with the modern GT500 Mustang, Carroll would likely be proud of the muscle car’s supercar-slaying performance. But while the current-gen car more than lives up to the nameplate, …

Which Motorcycle Brand Has the Best Warranty?

Although used bikes are easier on the budget, buying a new motorcycle has its advantages. Among them, the fact that a new motorcycle comes with a factory warranty. But just like with cars, not all bike warranties are created equal. So, how do the different motorcycle brands available in the US compare? Is there any …

Set Sail With Jay Leno Aboard His Antique 1916 Land Yacht

Cars and sailing don’t really mix—with a few notable exceptions. One is if you’re talking about something like the Amphicar. And another is the luxury cars that float and waft down the road, aka the land yachts. But while some automakers may dabble in aquatic activities, their cars usually only have a hint of nautical …

4 Seats and 1700 Hp: The Koenigsegg Gemera Is a Family-Friendly Hypercar

Hypercars, by definition, offer extreme levels of performance. Swedish company Koenigsegg, though, blends that kind of performance with more than a touch of unconventionality. Yes, hypercars like the Bugatti Divo can sprint at 200+ mph. But who else but Koenigsegg would make something like the four-seater Gemera? And as Doug DeMuro explains in his latest …

New vs. Used: $155k 2021 Porsche Panamera GTS vs. $26k 2010 Panamera 4S

If you shop on the used market, even a Porsche becomes potentially affordable. And one common bargain is a used Porsche Panamera sedan. But can a used Panamera really compare to a brand-new one? Especially something like the 2021 Porsche Panamera GTS? That’s what YouTube team Throttle House wanted to find out. A used 2010 …

Lexus Launches a Limited-Edition 2022 IS500 F Sport Performance

Toyota may have ended V8 development, but the engine still has a home in Lexus. Specifically, in the upcoming 2022 Lexus IS500 F Sport Performance. However, as if the news of the more-powerful engine wasn’t enough, Lexus is making a limited-edition version of the V8-powered sedan. It’s called the Lexus IS500 F Sport Performance Launch …

Life’s a Beach With the 2021 Jeepster Easter Jeep Safari Concept

As important as the Rubicon Trail is to Jeep fans, there’s one place that arguably matches it: Moab, Utah. Every year since 1967—except for 2020, due to the pandemic—the brand faithful gather here for the Easter Jeep Safari. And to celebrate their loyalty, since 2002 the automaker has brought along a selection of concepts to …

The Autobianchi A112 Is the Forgotten Classic Fiat Abarth

Over here in the US, the Abarth name is mostly associated with the Fiat 500 and the 124 Spider. However, Carlo Abarth tuned a wide variety of cars back in the day, many of which were never officially sold here. And among them was a little Italian hatchback called the Autobianchi A112. The Autobianchi A112 …

The Ducati 999 Superbike Is More Affordable Than You Think

While not every rider needs or can get the most out of the Panigale V4, Ducati’s latest superbike does benefit the motorcycling world as a whole. For one, the Panigale’s design helped improve the latest Monster. And, as with luxury car marques, new high-end Ducatis make used ones more attainable. But sometimes, a motorcycle isn’t …

It’s Electric: WEVC’s Coupe Channels the Classic Porsche 356

Even if you’re not restomodding it, rethinking or remaking a classic car isn’t unheard of. Fritz Egli did it to the Vincent Black Shadow, as did MST with the Mk2 Ford Escort. One German firm even reimagined the Bugatti Type 35. But arguably, for these ‘modern classics’ to be truly up-to-date, electric is the way …

The Electric 2022 BMW i4 Will Be More Powerful Than the M4

Since the i8 supercar was canceled last year, the only EV BMW offers is the i3 hatchback. However, that’s about to change. Recently, the German automaker took the wraps off its upcoming electric sedan, the 2022 BMW i4. And some of its planned specs might shock some BMW M4 owners. The 2022 BMW i4 is …

Can the 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 Out-Run Litchfield’s GR Yaris?

Until the hinted-at Corolla hot hatch finally arrives, the only GR car Toyota offers in the US is the Supra. But overseas, the GR Yaris has been making plenty of waves—and that’s even before the tuners got a hold of it. Specifically, UK-based Litchfield. However, the six-cylinder Toyota Supra 3.0 has also gotten a power …

Bring a Trailer Bargain of the Week: 1960 Triumph TR3A

It’s arguably better-known for bikes like the Bonneville today, but Triumph made cars, too, once upon a time. And in competing with fellow British automaker MG, it developed a wide array of beloved sporty roadsters. But while some of these models can command a premium, there are still some affordable ones out there. This week’s …
