Matthew Skwarczek started blogging in 2015 and focuses his writing on motorcycles and engineering science. A graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned his Master’s in Chemical Engineering, Matthew served as an applications engineer for BASF before joining MotorBiscuit in 2019.
In Matthew’s words, the visceral nature of riding requires you to be in the moment. Combined with his fascination in the analytics surrounding the building and designing of cars and bikes, both modern and classic, you’ll find his voice blends functionality and phenomena. He rides motorcycles and bicycles often, photographing them as well.
Matthew has contributed to Oppositelock and is now an alumnus. He plays Dungeons & Dragons and reads sci-fi and fantasy in his spare time, and appreciates the works of Peter Egan, Sam Smith, Brandon Sanderson, and Alex Goy.
Although Cadillac still makes some good sedans, it’s the Escalade SUV that’s the brand’s biggest star. Sadly, it’s not getting the Blackwing V8. And the electric version is still a few years away. Still, the new 2021 Cadillac Escalade is already making waves. Unfortunately, some reactions have been less than positive. Particularly when it comes …
No longer owned by Ford, Mazda is currently in the midst of rebranding and expansion. In addition to supporting the Miata fanbase, the Japanese automaker has also introduced its first EV. However, arguably the most dramatic sign of Mazda’s evolution is its growing lineup of stylish SUVs. But which Mazda SUV is best worth considering? …
It’s not inaccurate to think of GMC trucks as upscale Chevys. The GMC Sierra and Canyon do share platforms and powertrains with their Chevy counterparts. That’s why Hennessey can make Goliaths out of both Chevy and GMC trucks. However, GMC products do get some trims and features that separate them from Chevy’s vehicles. But, although …
The new Mercedes G63 AMG isn’t just more powerful than the outgoing model, it’s better overall. Though the old one did have a certain charm, especially once the custom builds rolled in. Some were a bit much, but others, like the portal-axle version, genuinely improved the G-Class’ capabilities. Then there was the 6-wheeled pickup, which …
Kia’s on something of a hot streak right now. The Korean automaker’s 3-row SUV, the Telluride, has been selling extremely well and even won Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year. The redesigned Sportage has also been well-received, as has the Soul. And following the release of the new Seltos, Kia is gearing up to unveil …
Mercedes finally updated the G-Class in 2018 after seeing the outgoing version off with a 6-wheeled pickup and portal-axle version. With the newest model came a new AMG version, the Mercedes G63 AMG. The G-Wagon has always been an impressive off-roader and luxury symbol, but now it’s joined in the high-end luxury SUV market by …
Usually, the word ‘classic’ conjures up images of old Bugattis, British Minis, or first-gen Broncos. Rarely is a minivan called ‘classic’. But going just by pure age, there are quite a few vans and minivans that are old enough to be classics. And long before Mercedes gave a minivan 500+ hp, there was another unconventional …
Jay Leno’s first up-close experience with a police car wasn’t exactly ideal. That’s because he was being thrown into one on charges of vagrancy. Now, though, Leno is a well-known TV host, comedian, and car enthusiast. And although he often features new cars like the Porsche Taycan in his videos, he also has a passion …
There aren’t many vehicles with the Honda Civic’s bandwidth. One reason for the compact sedan’s popularity is there’s a version for everybody. The base Civic is a comfortable and fairly-reliable commuter. For those who want a bit more spice, there’s the Civic Si. And, a few years ago, Honda finally brought over the Civic Type …
One letter helped cement BMW’s reputation for desirable, high-performance vehicles: M. Originally, M badges were reserved for mildly-detuned race cars, like the M1 supercar and E30 M3 sports sedan. Now, however, the BMW M is found on a whole range of powerful, fast cars, like the X5 and X6 SUVs. But not every M badge …
As a general rule, motorcycles only have 2 wheels. True, there are some 3-wheeled exceptions. Morgan, for example, will sell you a 3-wheeled vehicle that’s legally considered a motorcycle in most US states; ditto Canadian company Campagna. But if you want an actual motorcycle with 3 wheels, the only real choices are Can-Am or Harley-Davidson. …
For the vast majority of us, paying six figures is something usually done for a house, not a car. And it’s not just high-end luxury SUVs, like the Lamborghini Urus or Porsche Cayenne, that cost that much, either. There’s a 600-hp classic Ford Bronco available for a quarter-million dollars, and air-cooled Porsche 911s have similarly …
Netflix isn’t the only streaming service with automotive programming. After ‘leaving’ Top Gear, Clarkson, Hammond, and May attempted to recreate their formula on Amazon Prime in the form of The Grand Tour. And while the show is now in its 4th season, it’s safe to say their pseudo-juvenile recipe has gotten a little…stale. Exhibit 1: …
With how expensive new vehicles are getting, not to mention the rising cost of repairs, consumers want to get their money’s worth. With the average car spending 8.4 years on the road, Range Rover reliability isn’t going to cut it. Vehicle reliability depends on a variety of factors, and even the best brands can sometimes …
There’s a problem with vintage motorcycles and cars: they’re too old and valuable. A vintage Bugatti, for example, is more expensive than even a limited-edition new one. Exclusivity may bring cachet, but it’s more than a little disheartening to budding enthusiasts to hear that the most-affordable Bugatti isn’t even a car. However, there are alternatives. …
Bugattis regularly top two lists: the fastest cars on the market, and the most expensive cars on sale. The Centodieci costs as much as a fighter jet, and buying the fastest production car in the world, the Chiron Super Sport, would set you back almost $4 million. And classic Bugattis aren’t much cheaper, either. But …
Restomodding a classic vehicle like a Ford Bronco, Range Rover or Porsche 911 is all well and good. It helps keep the classics alive, letting people enjoy them through modern quality controls and technology. But that still depends on you having a vehicle to restore in the first place. And when it comes to iconic …
Top Gear used to be the go-to show for car enthusiasts, but not anymore. After offering numerous car-related movies, Netflix has started making its own car shows. And whether you’re a life-long gearhead or someone new to the passion, these shows should be on your ‘to-binge’ list. Drive to Survive In the US, the dominant …
Although the line between SUV and crossover has become blurred over time, what isn’t debatable is how popular the latter is. Crossovers like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are some of the best-selling vehicles in their company’s respective lineups. In fact, Car and Driver reports that in 2019, the CR-V and RAV4 were the …
In the most #FirstWorldProblems way possible, some high-end luxury SUVs are just too popular. The Lamborghini Urus, for example, sold so well the automaker has to artificially limit production to maintain a sense of ‘exclusivity.’ Even the $300,000+ club is getting crowded, what with SUVs like the Aston Martin DBX and Mercedes G550 4×4 Squared …
