It’s been a banner year for cruise ships. Just one month ago, a man made international headlines for diving into the ocean moments after his daughter fell off the side of a Disney cruise liner and into the ocean. Now, a viral video shows a passenger attempting a half-assed handstand on the edge of a glass pool. One moment later, the traveler goes over the edge to a soundtrack of screams.

A viral video captured a cruise ship passenger going for a handstand on the edge of a pool, just to fall from the 15th deck

Chalk it up to the free-flowing booze, bumping beats, or what have you, people tend to do stupid things on vacation. This guy was no different, choosing the edge of the Icon of the Sea’s  “Hideaway Pool” as the perfect spot for a handstand.

It went about as well as you might expect. Throwing any safety concerns to the wind, the man positioned himself on the glass barrier. But rather than executing a perfect, sports compilation-worthy handstand, he dives over the edge.

From the perspective of the cameraperson, it looked like a pretty terminal predicament. After all, he went headfirst over a 15th-deck railing. In reality, the man was lucky that there was a deck below.

A walking deck below the pool may have saved his life

Fortunately for the reckless cruise ship patron, there was a walking deck below, complete with a safety railing. According to Cruise Hive, the structure likely saved the man’s life, as there wasn’t much else preventing him from a worse fall.

As wild as it sounds, this isn’t even the first news-worthy incident of the Icon of the Sea’s cruise. An employee of the cruise ship reportedly stabbed a female coworker multiple times before jumping overboard. Unfortunately for him, the fall was fatal. That happened just five days ago.
