Trying to evade a traffic stop is never a good idea. This is especially true as it can lead to much destruction, including for other people on the road. This is what happened recently in Memphis when a driver tried running from the police after allegedly committing car theft, and the situation ended with multiple people dead.

Nothing good comes from committing car theft and evading a traffic stop

According to Fox 13 Memphis, the Memphis Police Department tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 that they believed was stolen, but the driver refused to comply and didn’t pull over. This happened on the afternoon of November 7th. Of course, this means that a police chase ensued. Sadly, this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill police chase, as the driver hit multiple vehicles while trying to escape. Eventually, the driver ended up crashing into a pole.

Sadly, the people evading the traffic stop caused much damage with their actions and the subsequent crash. Officials pronounced two passengers dead on the scene, and one was in critical condition. Sadly, a third passenger later passed away. A police officer on the scene also sustained injuries, but none of them were critical. The police department also had to shut down the road to other traffic until they could clear the scene.

A resident of the area said, “If it weren’t for the police, they would have gotten away. They continued, “After police rammed him, that’s when they hit a couple of the cars, and that is when he started shooting at the police. He stood at the sunroof, and that is when the police rammed him again, and that is when he lost control, and he hit the poles.”

Of course, car theft is a significant problem in Memphis as it is all over the country. Still, this story shows that running from a traffic stop isn’t worth the consequences that could impact everyone on the scene.
