The Tesla Model X is a midsize electric luxury SUV model produced and sold by Tesla (formerly Tesla Motors, Inc.). Currently, the Model X is the largest and most expensive EV offered by Tesla and is sized and priced above the Tesla Model Y compact electric luxury SUV. The Model X is most notable for its long driving range and its falcon-wing doors.
The Tesla Model X was developed off the full-size sedan platform of the Tesla Model S and first premiered as a prototype at Tesla’s design studio in Hawthrone, California, in 2012. Production plans followed soon after, and while deliveries were planned for early 2014, they were eventually pushed back to late 2015 to fix a handful of issues relating to its falcon-wing doors and overheating motors.
The Tesla Model X is offered in various electric range options and comes with standard all-wheel drive. Additionally, the Model X is said to be used as a basis for a Tesla minibus that will likely challenge the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Buzz production model.
