Hyundai is a South Korean automotive manufacturing division of the Hyundai Motor Company. The Hyundai Motor Group affiliate of the company is composed of the Hyundai,
Genesis (Hyundai's
luxury division),
Kia (of which Hyundai owns a controlling interest), and
Ioniq (a Hyundai sub-brand) automotive marques.
The Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967 as part of the Hyundai Engineering Construction company and released its first model, the Cortina, in 1968 with help from
Ford. In 1975, the company created and released the
Pony on its own, making it the first South Korean automobile. From there, Hyundai began expanding, creating new models and exporting to various international marketplaces with great success.
With its headquarters based in Seoul, South Korea, the most recent vehicles introduced by Hyundai to the American market include the
Venue urban compact SUV, the
Palisade three-row midsize SUV, and the
Ioniq 5 electric SUV. Its current projects include exploring additional mobility vehicle options and expanding research and production of alternative fuel source models.
