Subaru SUVs Frustrate Drivers With Infotainment Screen Ads
First Stellantis, now Subaru! Drivers are raging after receiving pop-up ads in their Subaru SUVs. The advertisements appear on the infotainment screen while driving. Some people claim this distraction increases the risk of crashing.
Subaru SUVs distract drivers with annoying pop-up ads
It’s hard to find a new vehicle without a massive infotainment screen these days. Typically, drivers like the visibility that they provide. However, Stellantis and Subaru are under fire for taking advantage of the system.
First, Jeep and Dodge vehicles plagued drivers with ads for extended warranties and cash incentives for new rides. Now Subaru SUVs are jumping on this trend.
Owners are complaining about SiriusXM ads appearing on the screens in their SUVs while they’re driving. This time around, the ad said, “Enjoy SiriusXM Free thru 12/1”. However, that date passed before the message even popped up.
According to Reddit, one Subaru owner attributes this practice to nearly crashing. This has happened a few times before, but this time, they almost wrecked.
The entire screen suddenly changed, forcing the driver to take their eyes off the road. Because they were traveling at 55 mph in winter conditions, the SUV swerved and slid. It nearly crashed into a ditch.
Allegedly, this wouldn’t have happened if the ad hadn’t appeared. They view this advertisement practice as unacceptable and ask the automaker to stop.
Another owner of a Subaru Crosstrek shared that the ad appears over Apple CarPlay. You have to shut down an active app to get rid of it. Subaru claims it’s the first time drivers have complained about the issue.
The automaker promises to discuss the matter in a future meeting and claims the advertisements only appear twice a year. However, people have been complaining about this problem since 2023.
