Recall Alert: Over 550,000 Hyundai SUVs Have Faulty Airbags
My heart goes out to Hyundai; it’s having a rough week after getting threatened by increasing tariffs. Now it’s involved in a massive recall. About 5,68,576 Hyundai SUVs have faulty airbags. Owners need to visit a local dealership for repairs.
Hyundai Palisade recall due to defective airbags
Families, this recall notice is for you! About 568,576 Hyundai Palisade vehicles may have with airbags that fail to deploy properly. This includes models from 2020 to 2025.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that 100% of the Hyundai SUVs involved have the defect.
Basically, the side curtain airbags for third-row occupants in the Palisade models may deploy improperly during a crash. As a result, they fail to meet federal safety standards.
They fail to meet the head from displacement requirements set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 225, “Ejection Mitigation”.
Vehicles that don’t comply with this standard have an increased risk of injury to third-row passengers during certain crashes, including rollovers. The airbags are supplied by Sweden’s Autoliv. It’s the largest supplier of airbags and seatbelts in the world.
Owners at risk will be notified via mail starting in the middle of March. Unfortunately, there isn’t a remedy for the problem yet. But a fix is currently under development. Owners will not face charges for the repair.
Hyundai will provide owners of impacted Palisade SUVs with reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses incurred to repair the issue. The models at risk are no longer in production.
If you don’t want to wait, you can see if your vehicle is at risk by searching your Vehicle Identification Number or license plate on the NHTSA lookup tool.
