What’s the most disturbing thing you could find in an old van? Two van-lifers did a double take when they spotted multiple, mysterious bullet-shaped holes in the van they were converting into an RV. So they confronted the used car dealership.

Brandon and Sarah enjoy the “van life,” traveling and living out of a small RV with their three dogs. They recently upgraded to a new van, a Ram ProMaster they are converting into a camper. In the process, they noticed something odd about the van.

The outside of both back doors had large rubber knobs bolted through the metal. They appeared to be there to keep the doors from damaging the metal sides of the van when swung open. But they weren’t placed evenly.

Then Brandon and Sarah removed the knobs. They were bolted to holes that hadn’t been created by a drill. Sarah says, “it’s very obviously a bullet hole.” And that wasn’t all. The bullet had passed through the door and kept going. “You can see where it hit the front seat.”

The van does indeed have a long tear in the front seat. You can see it for yourself in the first video embedded below:

Many commenters on that first video called bull. Some argued the van just had poorly installed rubber bumpers, explaining both the shape and mismatched location of the holes. Others pointed out that the hole in the back of the front seat should be much larger. When the couple disassembled the front seat, Brandon even concluded that the hole was not from a bullet. Case closed? Not so fast.

Sarah explains, “When we brought it up to the dealership, he told me the whole story. He said that the previous owner was driving through the Bronx in New York when he found himself in the middle of a shootout.”

The internet went crazy. Many commenters insisted the dealership should have disclosed this information earlier.

Cars are sometimes involved in shootings. They may even resell for bargain prices. Private buyers can say as much or as little about a used vehicle as they want. But dealerships have stricter rules. When a car flipper bought a Ford Expedition with bullet holes, Copart at least warned him its problems fit in the category of “biohazard.”
