Being a plane passenger nowadays is as straightforward or stressful as you make it. Airlines are upfront about what people can transport on airplanes, but some still ignore the rules. According to The Charlotte Observer, Rashad Jamal Blanchard, 47, used his luggage to transport $700,000 worth of meth from Charlotte to Los Angeles on February 1, 2023.
According to the report, Rashad had 34.6 kilograms of meth spread out across three suitcases. Of course, he also had it wrapped in vacuum-sealed bags. Notably, there was a fourth suitcase, but someone was able to take it. However, investigators tracked it and said it contained 11.4 kilograms of the drug. Surprisingly, the plane passenger succeeded in transporting the drugs. However, things took a turn when his flight landed, and the police placed him in handcuffs.
The plane passenger finally went to court on November 15 of this year and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Additionally, he has five years of supervised release after he gets out. Notably, the man has a pretty extensive criminal record, including crimes in Virginia, California, North Carolina, and Florida. He was actually on probation for a bank robbery when he got arrested for transporting the drugs in his luggage.
