Here’s how states no longer requiring inspection stickers could hurt drivers
Most states still require drivers to get a motor vehicle inspection. Not having one could cause additional citations if drivers are pulled over for traffic stops. Of course, many detest the process. Because of this, some states are planning to do away with the need for a valid car inspection sticker. Still, this advancement may not be what drivers believe it to be, as some experts think it could cause insurance rates to rise.
Ending the motor vehicle inspection requirement could come back to bite drivers
Of course, Texas just recently ended its requirement for car owners to get a motor vehicle inspection. Of course, this also means they won’t need the car inspection sticker when they get pulled over for traffic stops. Recently, News Channel 10 spoke to Bob Dean from the Robert Dean Insurance Company in Texas. Specifically, they asked how the state ending this long-standing requirement could impact drivers.
One consequence of states no longer requiring drivers to get a motor vehicle inspection is that there could be more car accidents. This is because inspections usually cover things like tires, lights, and other safety equipment. However, the fear is that more unsafe vehicles will be on the road, which poses a risk for everyone.
Bob also said, “As far as safety goes, we’ve had an uptick in accidents in these last four years. I feel like that’s going to increase with more unsafe vehicles driving on the road, so with that, if you have more accidents, insurance rates are always going to increase.”
Bob also says that the problems from states no longer requiring a motor vehicle inspection may not be apparent immediately. He goes on, “Affected first will be the uninsured motorist’s portion of your policy, which will tend to get a little more expensive if there are more uninsured drivers out on the road.” He also says drivers should be sure they have uninsured motorists coverage.
