Reliability is everything. From daily drivers to work vehicles, no aspect of a car can outweigh knowing that it will turn over when you turn the key. Given the work aspects, having a reliable pickup truck is key to the segment. So, what does that make these 2022 pickup trucks that struggled with reliability?

Critics like Consumer Reports, J.D. Power, Kelly Blue Book, and others rates cars and trucks on a great many criteria. One of the most important is the predicted reliability rating. This rating is formed based on the reliability history of a model. In addition, most of these publications include owner reports from surveies to be taken into consideration.

What are the least reliable 2022 pickup trucks?

The trucks that were reported as having significant owenr’s claims or a history of reliability issues for a model are the ones we chose to be included in the list.

Keep in mind that while all these publications are good, it is always wise to cross refernece for the most accurate information. Those publications will often find different things. Between two and three cross-references, you should have a good idea of what to expect.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 was also on a least reliable 2021 pickup trucks list for Consumer Reports. It’s not that the GMC Sierra is a bad pickup truck. In fact, Consumer Reports and J.D. Power both have plenty of nice things to say about the driving experience. However, due to its mixed bag of reliability issues, CR gave it a poor predicted reliability score. AutoBlog, included the Silverado/Sierra 1500 on its list of the least relaibile pickup trucks of 2022, as well.

The other GM pickup that did poorly onpredicted reliability on CR is the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. Like the GMC Sierra 1500, the Chevy model landed the same reliability score due to the nearly identical mechanical similarites between the brand mates.

What makes the 2022 Chevy Silverado and 2022 GMC Sierra so unreliable?

It is worth saying thousands of people every year buy these massively popular pickup truck models, and for good reason. They are strong towers and carry decades of pickup truck pedigree. However, last year the Silverado had three recalls to its name, and the GMC Sierra is built from the same bones as the Chevy Silverado, meaning they share many of the same issues, but not all are exactly the same.

Although Consumer Reports hasn’t gone into detail about the problems they expect from these two models because of how new they are, we can look back at the 2021 models to see what CR is getting at.

For the 2021 models, which are ultimately similar to the 2022 models, Consumer Reports reviewed a survey with over 300,000 vehicles for each model. It also reviewed consumer data from previous years to form a broad view of the predicted reliability of any given vehicle. There are reports of recurring issues with in-car electronics and brakes (to the point of recall). According to GM Authority, additional issues with the power equipment and transmission have also been reported.

The 2022 Ram 1500 Classic and the 2022 Ford F-150 also struggle with reliability

The 2022 Ram 1500 Classic was named one of the least reliable pickup trucks of the year by Consumer Reports. It has struggled with issues in the fuel systems, brakes, and power equipment. But unlike the others, CR didn’t have many positive things to say about it outside of having one of the nicest cabins in the pickup truck game.

Unfortunately, the least reliable 2022 pickup truck list isn’t complete without one of the most popular pickup trucks of all time, the Ford F-150 Hyrbid. AutoBlog named it the least reliable pickup truck of the year.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Hybird did very poorly on predicted reliability from CR as well. The truck didn’t start off with that bad of a score, but the reports of issues grew. There aren’t as many issues with the normal Ford F-150 (which still has had one recall so far), but the hybrid verion has struggled.

Again if we look back to the all-new 2021 F-150 model, we saw many great innovations from the old standby, but we also saw many of them show rust underneath within weeks of purchase.

Do your due diligence

Remember to do your due diligence. Yes, these are the least reliable 2022 pickup trucks based on a number of factors, but other publications will inevitably show something slightly different. For instance, Edmunds specifcally states that its Ford F-150 has been a peach. It adresses the reliability concens and reports from others, but claims that its unit hasn’t had any problems.

Many people buy these models and have loved them for decades. Always make sure to drive any car you’re thinking about buying yourself, if possible.
