Ford recall onslaught continues with over half a million Edge SUVs and F-150s recalled
Ford can’t seem to catch a break in 2025. The Blue Oval already broke the overall industry record for the most recalls in one year, with the number rapidly approaching 100 individual recalls, and it’s not even September. Now, however, the Detroit automaker is recalling over half a million vehicles between the Edge, F-150, and Lincoln MKX.
Ford’s record recall year won’t relent, with almost 500,000 SUVs and over 100,000 F-150s recalled
In yet another set of Ford recalls, well over half a million vehicles will need repairs to remedy potentially dangerous issues. The recalls are split among three nameplates: the Edge SUV, F-150 pickup truck, and Lincoln MKX SUV.
According to NHTSA Recall No. 25V544, the Blue Oval is recalling 414,717 Edge SUVs from the 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 model years for “suspect” rear brake jounce hoses. The hoses may be prone to breaking, which may lead to leaking brake fluid.
At first, owners may notice increased brake pedal travel, but progressively declining brake performance will increase the impacted vehicles’ stopping distance and increase the chances of a crash. The Lincoln MKX, a mechanical sibling of the Edge, is on the recall notice for the same reason.
Then there’s Recall No. 25V512. It names 103,174 Ford F-150 pickup trucks for a rear axle hub bolt that may break over time. It’s not every 2023 to 2025 F-150, mind you. The issue is exclusive to F-150s from the timeframe with a 9.75-inch HD axle and the Trailer Tow Max Duty package.
So what’s the issue? The NHTSA documentation suggests that the broken component may allow movement in the splines of the axle shaft and hub. Ultimately, it may result in a loss of torque transfer at the wheel ends or even a total loss of power in RWD mode.
Worse yet, the fault presents a rollaway risk. In the meantime, however, owners can use the parking brake to prevent their trucks from rolling away while in park.
While Ford is still working on a remedy for the Edge and MKX recall, impacted F-150s will be eligible for a dealer-installed fix after the automaker sends out notifications.
