Braman Mini of Miami has crowned the automaker the “(Unofficial) Hipster Car Brand of the Year.” The dealership jokes that Mini is “no stranger to winning awards.” But Mini earned another less distinguished ranking this year: the automotive brand with the least honest drivers.

How Mini became the hipster car of the year

By the 1990s, BMW had built a name selling RWD sports cars. But it wanted in on the lucrative FWD/AWD compact and crossover market without watering down its image. So it bought British automaker Mini. Two decades after this merger, Mini is still making compact, relatively reliable, relatively sporty vehicles that all ooze retro styling.

So is it the (unofficial) hipster car of the year? That’s harder to measure. But the cheap, efficient, sporty, and stylish vehicles have certainly won the hearts of a certain generation.

In the words of Braman Mini of Miami, “MINI didn’t originally set out to make hipster cars; young people and hipsters just collectively decided that MINI made the best small cars for showing off vintage clothes and handlebar mustaches.”

The Least Honest Drivers

The Wheels Away website decided to measure which automotive brand has the most honest drivers. It interviewed 4,100 US drivers, ranking them on the honesty-humility trait of the HEXACO Personality Inventory. It also questioned them on a series of scenarios, such as what they would do if they scratched another car while parking, or what they’d say to get out of a speeding tick.

Many of the drivers who admitted they’d be more likely to make excuses or avoid responsibility own MINIS. Out of a possible honesty score of 80, these drivers earned just 57.31 points on average. The runners-up drive Acuras. Third place goes to Volvo owners. Here are the 10 brands with the least honest drivers.

  1. Mini
  2. Acura
  3. Volvo
  4. Ram
  5. Pontiac
  6. Lexus
  7. Audi
  8. Tesla
  9. General Motors
  10. Chrysler

So which drivers are the most honest? According to Wheels Away, they own Mitsubishis. Second place goes to Infinity, while Lincoln claims third.
