Many people around the country have been faced with driving in the snow recently. Though dangerous, some drivers can’t avoid traveling in hazardous weather. Of course, snowy weather can also require caution in some unconventional ways. Recently, one woman in Missouri was out running errands when snow fell from an overpass and smashed the windshield of her Jeep. However, there’s more to the story.

Driving in the snow is dangerous, but there are other things to look out for

According to First Alert 4, Susan Zadrozinski was driving around Fenton, Missouri, on January 9th in her Jeep Wrangler. Of course, many Jeep vehicles perform well when driving in the snow, so she felt comfortable on the road. While driving, she noticed that the MoDOT snow plows were clearing snow from the overpass, and some of the white icy substance was falling onto the interstate.

Sadly, this is where things took a turn while she was driving in the snow that day. The sheer force of the snow smashed through the windshield of her beloved Jeep and also dented it. Luckily, she didn’t lose control of the vehicle upon impact. According to Susan, “It hit my windshield while I was driving, and it felt like a deer hit my car or a boulder hit my car. It was very loud.” Sadly, she can’t drive her Jeep until she can replace the windshield.

Following the incident, she says the Department of Transportation should consider other ways to clear snow from overpasses. This is a tried-and-true method, but there are clearly risks to public safety associated with it. She continued, “It was a very dangerous situation, and I really feel like they should have used better judgment on the time of day or some other method of removal other than pushing off onto the road below.”

The Department of Transportation issued a response and basically urged Susan to file a claim with their agency. Check out this recent article on tips to maintain safety while driving in the snow.
