Car theft is a significant problem worldwide. Luckily, law enforcement agencies have devised better ways to recover stolen vehicles. However, some cars are stolen by people the victims know. This is what happened recently after a 12-year-old stole his grandmother’s car and tried to evade a traffic stop.

Police arrested a 12-year-old boy for car theft and evading a traffic stop

According to Local 12 News, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received word of a car theft suspect who could be headed their way. Notably, the Issaquah Police Department contacted the agency after a grandfather notified them that his grandson had stolen his car. They believed the boy was driving to Grant County because he had a connection to Moses Lake, which is located there.

According to the report, the Grant County Sheriff’s office found the vehicle near Moses Lake on the morning of November 27th. They tried to make a traffic stop on the car theft suspect, but he led them on a short chase. Because of this, the police officers used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, which worked. Luckily, the boy sustained no injuries, and there was very little damage to the car.

The 12-year-old car theft suspect traveled 161 miles before the police found him. As a result of these actions, the police arrested him on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding. It’s unclear why he took the vehicle and what punishment he will face due to his young age. Naturally, his name has not been released as he is not of age.
