There are several rugged, dependable 4×4 trucks that we never got in the US. Or, in the case of something like the Toyota Hilux, we got a slightly ‘plushier’ version. Luckily, many of these off-road icons are now old enough to import. While their older designs do mean living with fewer modern features, their simplicity …
The electric pickup truck has come a long way in recent years. But there are still some lingering issues. Towing drains batteries, but simply fitting bigger ones may not be the best solution. New technologies, like supercapacitors, or refinements on established ones, like hydrogen fuel cells, could help. But they’re not quite ready yet. And …
When it comes to off-road parts, Fox shocks are one of the go-to’s. They’re standard on SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro. Trucks like the Ford F-150 Raptor, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, and Jeep Gladiator Rubicon also get them. So does the Ford Ranger Raptor. And soon, US Ranger and …
The Suzuki Jimny has been winning a lot of fans around the world. Although the only way we can get the small, light off-road SUV is by importing older models, the Jimny has garnered enough attention for Jeep to consider making a rival SUV. The Jimny’s already a baby Bronco rival, after all. But would …
Although BMW made a name for itself with sporty cars like the M5, today the German automaker is just as well known for its luxury SUVs. Models like the X7 may be expensive, but they’re receiving good reviews. However, BMW hasn’t forgotten how to mix speed with eye-catching style. In fact, it’s fast SUVs like …
SUVs are enormously popular. Although the passenger car isn’t quite dead yet, SUVs have overtaken cars in the used market. And of the top 5 least-depreciating vehicles in the US, 3 are SUVs. But SUVs aren’t perfect. And they’re not always the best vehicle for the job. For one, minivans are actually driven more than …
While Fisker’s initial hybrid venture wasn’t exactly successful, the automaker is back for another round. This time, with an electric SUV, the Fisker Ocean. When the SUV was first teased, details were scant. However, at this year’s CES, Fisker formally unveiled the Ocean, complete with more information about its powertrain and pricing. But will it …
When your vehicle has received fewer redesigns than the Toyota 4Runner, you know it’s getting old. And yet, the Dodge Challenger is still remarkably popular. While the Ford Mustang may be ranked as higher on the used-car market, and Chevrolet’s updated the Camaro regularly, the Challenger actually beat out the Camaro in 2019 sales. In …
Although the Chevy Silverado has slipped in sales recently, the truck regularly outsells its GMC version and comes with numerous standard features. It’s also stolen less often than the F-150. Still, GM knows there’s always room to broaden the Silverado’s appeal and improve on its design. The automaker is considering bringing back the single cab …
Today, it’s hard to find an SUV that doesn’t at least offer AWD. Although AWD isn’t invincible—especially in winter, when you should invest in good snow tires—it does help improve an SUV’s traction and acceleration. That matters for performance and luxury SUVs, especially ones made by Audi. It wasn’t an SUV, truck, or crossover that …
90s Japanese SUVs, like the Nissan Patrol and Acura SLX, are big right now. Especially ones the US never got, like the Toyota Mega Cruiser and Suzuki Jimny. And some of the most popular ones come from Mitsubishi. Like Ford did with the Bronco R, Mitsubishi took its SUVs rally-racing, at the arduous Paris-Dakar. But …
When it comes to popular off-road SUVs, it’s hard to top the Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Wrangler. Their designs and rugged features make them the #2 and #1, respectively, least-depreciating vehicles in the US. Muscle cars get traded in for Wranglers, and the Jeep is now available with a diesel; soon, a plug-in hybrid version …
While the paperwork behind the merger between PSA and FCA is done, the effects won’t be felt immediately. The merger will impact brands from both groups, in positive and negative ways. More importantly, the FCA merger will impact consumers inside and outside the US. Potentially, it could mean that markets everywhere will finally get to …
Ever since Tesla showed its Cybertruck pulling an F-150 uphill, towing tug-of-war videos have surged in popularity. One YouTube team even attempted a Tesla-Ford rematch and highlighted how difficult it is to compare ICE trucks with electric ones. But are tests like this actually useful, or pure publicity stunts? Recently, Edmunds.com took two popular off-road …
Jeep’s on a mission to improve its green credentials. The brand’s planning on going electric, for one. And the Wrangler now has a diesel that will likely come to the Gladiator. But the Wrangler isn’t done with efficiency improvements quite yet. We’ve known about plug-in hybrid Jeep SUVs for some time—FCA has been retooling its …
Although range anxiety is dying down, when it comes to electric trucks, a big battery pack is still important. Especially when towing gets involved. However, not every manufacturer subscribes to the idea. Porsche’s Taycan, for example, can only do about 200 miles on a charge, Road & Track reported. And Mazda purposefully gave its upcoming …
Ford’s mid-size Ranger is a little more exciting outside the US. There’s the Ranger Raptor, an off-road-capable truck that’s been seen in the hands of the fuzz. But one reason we don’t get it is its engine. The 2.0-liter turbodiesel is down on power, even compared to the sole US engine, a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. …
Since launching as a singular Hyundai model, the Genesis luxury brand has risen in popularity and esteem. Its vehicles are suitably quick, and offer a lot of safety and quality, especially for the price. The Genesis G70 was recently named both Motor Trend’s Car of the Year Award and the North American Car of the …
When it comes to daily-drivable off-road SUVs, it’s tough to beat the Toyota 4Runner. True, the SUV’s design is old-school, and it was missing certain safety features until recently. But its design also means it’s practically bulletproof; that and its very-real capability means the Toyota 4Runner holds its value extremely well. Only the Jeep Wrangler …
American off-road enthusiasts are finally free to import some iconic and capable SUVs, like the Nissan Patrol and Mitsubishi Pajero. And while the latest Suzuki Jimny and Lada Niva aren’t yet importable, US automakers have clued in. Jeep, for instance, is making a Jimny competitor. But Toyota, arguably, has the most desirable vehicles. Its non-US …
