Sadly, car theft is on the rise worldwide. However, this isn’t usually the case for emergency vehicles such as ambulances. Still, one man in Tennessee recently stole one and then evaded a traffic stop as police tried to apprehend him. He is now facing several charges, one of which happens to be a felony.

Evading a traffic stop after committing car theft is a horrible idea, even for criminals

Both committing car theft and evading a traffic stop are avoidable crimes. However, according to WVLT, one man, Patrick Fults, recently did both in Tennessee. The report says that local law enforcement issued a “lookout warning” for the man after he was said to have stolen an ambulance from Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

Of course, police officers later located the man and tried to conduct a traffic stop. According to the report, “At approximately 10:12 a.m., a THP trooper caught up to the ambulance in Greene County at the 44-mile marker southbound and attempted a traffic stop.” It continues, “The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.”

As is usually the case, things got worse as the driver continued to evade the traffic stop. Eventually, the police caught up to him and then used spike strips to stop him. However, this caused him to crash the stolen ambulance into a wooded area. From there, he exited the vehicle and tried to get away on foot. They then caught him at about 10:30 a.m. He is being charged with auto theft, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, improper passing, and speeding and evading an arrest.
