2 Toyota SUVs (Not the RAV4) Benefit From Significant Gains
It’s time for two Toyota SUVs, aside from the Toyota RAV4, to enjoy the spotlight. These models are benefiting from tremendous sales growth instead of getting stuck in the shadows of others. The RAV4’s reign might be at risk.
Two Toyota SUVs celebrate tremendous growth
I know, you’re used to hearing about the Toyota RAV4 being super successful and popular. While it’s still the best-selling model, two Toyota SUVs are starting to step out of its shadow.
First up is the Toyota Grand Highlander. This three-row family hauler sold 71,717 models in 2024. This figure increased to 136,802 units in 2025, representing a 91% sales increase.
Then the Toyota Land Cruiser returned in 2024 with 29,113 sales. In 2025, it sold 43,946 models for a 51% year-over-year sales increase.
However, the Toyota RAV4 is still out of reach. According to Good Car Bad Car, the RAV4 sold 475,193 SUVs in America in 2024 and 437,260 units in 2025. Despite outselling other SUVs in the lineup, it has experienced a sales decline.
This is the first decline in sales for the RAV4 since 2022. Is this the beginning of its fall? I worry about the 2026 RAV4. Despite starting a new generation with upgraded looks and tech, it feels limited. It’s only being offered with hybrid powertrains.
The Grand Highlander still offers a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) along with two hybrid options. However, the Land Cruiser has also gone hybrid-only.
Also, the 2026 RAV$ could get off to a slow start in 2026. Production plants are being staggered as they’re retrofitted to build the updated model.
