Multiple Wisconsin residents are facing charges after stealing a car and abandoning a child
Car theft is a widespread problem for vehicle owners and society in general. However, sometimes, the biggest issue with this crime isn’t the theft itself but the other impacts it could have. Recently, two people in Wisconsin were arrested after stealing a car with a child inside. However, it’s what they did to the child that’s the worst part of this story.
Car theft is bad, but child abandonment is a different level of crime
There are several forms of car theft. However, the most common happens when criminals spot a car they want and decide to drive off with it. According to WMTV 15 News, this recently happened in Wisconsin when two people decided to steal a vehicle from a Stop N Go gas station. Police received word of the theft on December 13th at around 4:30 pm and also learned that there was a 2-year-old in the car when they took it.
Naturally, the police officers began trying to locate the car theft suspects and the child. However, they later found the child left on the side of the road, still in the car seat. Luckily, the child was not harmed. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office found the two people who had taken the vehicle near Beloit, Wisconsin. Of course, they were both arrested and are now facing charges.
Regarding the charges for the car theft perpetrators, the man faces felony operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, abduction of another’s child, child abandonment, misdemeanor bail jumping, and felony bail jumping. The authorities are charging the woman with felony operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, abduction of another’s child, child abandonment, and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
