Walton Goggins driving a Tesla Cybertruck is just about perfect
Walton Goggins is in demand. The Alabama-born actor just appeared on Saturday Night Live after wrapping up his work as the delightfully risible Baby Billy Freeman in “The Righteous Gemstones.” Better yet, Goggin’s absurd character had a perfect companion in the Tesla Cybertruck for season four.
Walton Goggins’ character in ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ drives a Tesla Cybertruck– and it couldn’t be a better car casting
Okay, so The Righteous Gemstones isn’t for everyone. If you’re not a fan of the sort of irreverence you’ll find in something like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” or “Eastbound & Down,” this isn’t for you. However, those who do thrive on that sort of comedy will love The Righteous Gemstones and Walton Goggins’ ridiculous character, Baby Billy Freeman. Oh, and did we mention that he drives a Tesla Cybertruck in the latest season? Chef’s kiss.
It just works. Every time you see Baby Billy on screen, you just know he’s good to say something, well, bonkers. So what sort of vehicle do you pair with a character like that? An equally bonkers one, of course. And just like that, Walton Goggins is on screen, berating his family and nanny while pulling his belongings out of a giant, shouty Cybertruck.
A marketing personality once described the Hummer H1 (the civilian version of the military workhorse, the HMMWV) as more attention-grabbing than a person “driving a Lamborghini with his hair on fire.” Agree with it or not, the Cybertruck is the H1 of the current EV market. Whether it’s in its factory stainless steel guise or an aftermarket vinyl wrap, the Cybertruck is an out-loud vehicle.
It is, then, a perfect vehicular companion for Walton Goggins’ “Uncle Baby Billy.” This is a character who (spoiler alert) went waterskiing naked before attempting to launch a series about a teenage Jesus. Seriously. Of course, the Cybertruck isn’t the only eye-catching ride in the mix. The series is a veritable showcase of Cadillacs and Lincolns, as well as the occasional Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
Needless to say, pairing a character with the right set of wheels is all part of the equation. A seamless, believable car-to-character casting is satisfying, like that of Trent Crimm and his Mercedes-Benz R107 SL in “Ted Lasso.”
