We all love car shows. New performance cars, classic cars, patina-covered rat rods, it doesn’t matter. Car enthusiasts love a showcase of our most beloved mechanical companions. However, street takeovers take the worst parts of the worst shows, namely raw idiocy behind the wheel, and turn things up to 11. It’s precisely why these GSP officers didn’t make any friends driving into a street takeover while takeover-goers tried to block the police cars with their bodies. Seriously.

A police car charged into an Atlanta street takeover, and attendees tried blocking it to stop the cop from chasing a runner

A video shows the moment that a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) officer responded to a street takeover at an intersection in Atlanta. Unlike a tame show or cruise, masked pedestrians and parked cars blocked access to the busy intersection. The dash cam showed the GSP Dodge Charger driving into the show, lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Some of the street takeover-goers with a modicum of self-preservation instincts scattered. However, a handful of others, still gathered around a donut-ing first-generation Lexus IS 300, chose to block the police car. That didn’t last long, though. The masked attendees quickly stepped aside, and the Charger chased the XE10-model Lexus away from the intersection.

The GSP officer chased the Lexus for block after block. Eventually, the silver Lexus sedan slowed to make a right turn. But he scrubbed off too much speed, and a moment later, the police cruiser was bumper-to-bumper with the fleeing suspect. As the two vehicles straightened out on the next surface street, the Charger lined up and used the famed precision immobilization technique (PIT) to send the Lexus spinning.

But the Lexus refused to relent. That doesn’t mean that the IS 300 was out of the woods, though. A second GSP Dodge Charger was right there to perform yet another PIT maneuver, this time sending the Lexus sliding in the opposite direction. Sparks shot from the passenger-side rear wheel as the IS 300 came to a halt. For this street takeover-goer, the night was over. Police units boxed the Lexus in and moved in for the arrest.
