Uber drivers have become an important part of modern-day society. This is the case because many people opt not to buy cars. Additionally, even those with automobiles sometimes need rideshare options. However, this can be a pretty dangerous job. A recent story out of Virginia shows why, as one Uber driver suffered a brutal attack Luckily, his dash cam caught the whole thing.

Uber drivers face risks each time they give rides

According to WSLS, an Uber driver, Andy Earthman, in Blacksburg, Virginia, was out getting people where they needed to go on December 19th. However, things took a turn when he completed one of his rides. A fellow driver who claimed that he had cut him off while on the road attacked him. Like most Uber drivers, Andy had this to say about the encounter, “I’ve driven, I don’t know how many hundreds of thousands of miles, and I’ve never experienced anything like this.”

He continued, “I was in complete flight mode. I was cowering in my car, trying to get away. I’m almost 60 years old. I weigh 170 [pounds], this guy was closer to 300 [pounds] and half my age.”

Notably, the report says that the attacker followed Andy for almost a mile to attack him. Of course, Andy says he called the Blacksburg Police Department after the attack. However, they have no answers for him despite there being an active investigation. Andy continued, “I believe he needs to be prosecuted. He needs to be arrested and prosecuted, and I need to know who he is so I can secure a restraining order.” Naturally, many Uber drivers would want the same following an attack.

Sadly, Andy has stopped driving for Uber following the attack. Regarding his use of a dash cam, they serve significant purposes for all drivers, but especially those who work for Uber.
