The president of the United States doesn’t typically award the Medal of Freedom immediately following a car crash. But this instance may just change things.

President Donald Trump recently said on social media that he would award disbarred lawyer and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani the coveted medal, the same award given to Rosa Parks by former President Clinton, following a particularly damaging car accident last weekend.

President Trump will reportedly award former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom

US President Donald Trump recently posted on Truth Social that he would award former NYC Mayor Giuliani the nation’s highest honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It follows a nasty car wreck wherein the former NYC mayor sustained back injuries.

“As President of the United States of America, I am pleased to announce that Rudy Giuliani, the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot, will receive THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM, our Country’s highest civilian honor,” the president posted on social media.

The news follows Giuliani’s nasty fender bender and resultant spinal fracture

According to NYC authorities, Giuliani’s car was “struck from behind at high speed” on Saturday. As a result, the famous 81-year-old Big Apple mayor sustained spinal injuries, per NBC News

But, before those of you out there spiral off into conspiracy theory territory, authorities say the car crash was not a “targeted attack.” Giuliani’s security chief, Michael Ragusa worked quickly to dispel such rumors, posting, “This was not a targeted attack,” on X.

“We ask everyone to respect Mayor Giuliani’s privacy and recovery, and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories,” Ragusa added. Still, Giuliani has the country’s highest civilian award waiting for him after his recovery.
