All of the “Detroit Three” have manufacturing operations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. But there’s only one truck assembled in all three North American countries: the Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

When you buy a 2026 half-ton Chevy Silverado on a U.S. dealership lot, it may have been assembled in one of three factories. The first is General Motors’ Fort Wayne Assembly, which is actually in Roanoke, Indiana. The second is Oshawa Assembly, outside of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. The third is Silao Assembly, which is in central Mexico. GM also has a major factory building engines and transmissions in Silao, an automotive manufacturing hub in Northern Mexico.

How can you tell where your Silverado was assembled? The first character of your VIN tells you the country of final assembly. Digits 1, 4, 5, or 7 all stand for “USA.” A 2 means Canada, a 3 means Mexico.

What trucks are actually assembled in the USA?

Cars.com ranked the most “American made” 2025 pickup trucks, based on both final assembly and the percentage of components that were originally built in either the U.S. or Canada. Note that automakers don’t need to publish data for where the components in heavy-duty trucks originate. Here are the rankings for midsize and half-tons:

  1. Jeep Gladiator (Toledo, Ohio)
  2. Honda Ridgeline (Lincoln, Alabama)
  3. Chevrolet Colorado (Wentzville, Missouri)
  4. Hyundai Santa Cruz (Montgomery, Alabama)
  5. Ford F-150 (Kansas City, or Michigan)
  6. GMC Canyon (Wentzville, Missouri)
  7. Ram 1500 (Sterling Heights, Michigan)
  8. Ford Ranger (Wayne, Michigan)
  9. Toyota Tundra (San Antonio, Texas)
  10. GMC Sierra 1500 (Indiana or Mexico)
  11. Nissan Frontier (Canton, Mississippi)
  12. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (Indiana, Ontario, or Mexico)

Several models didn’t even make this list. For example, Ford builds every Maverick in Mexico. Likewise, Ram assembles every heavy-duty (2500 and above) pickup trucks in Mexico.

The Silverado 1500 may soon move up this list. At the end of January 2026, GM cut an entire 500-worker shift at its Oshawa Silverado plant. It added 250 temporary workers in Indiana, presumably to assemble more Silverados in the U.S.
