Truck driver is facing charges after police found 500 lbs of drugs mixed with produce
Truck driving is one of the most important professions as it’s essential for transporting goods. Because of this, truck drivers are held to a high standard when it comes to ethics. However, one recent trucking news story finds a driver behind bars after a police traffic stop uncovered more than 500 pounds of illegal drugs. Not only that, but the drugs were stashed alongside food products.
Truck driving doesn’t exempt people from being stopped for a traffic stop
According to AZ Central, an Arizona police officer recently conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck. The driver was a 31-year-old man, and the report suggests that he complied with the traffic stop. However, it also seems that he exhibited behavior that made the officer on the scene suspect him of criminal activity, which prompted a search of the truck and trailer. Of course, truck drivers are not exempt from these interactions with police.
As the traffic stop progressed and the police completed the search, they found the reason why the truck driver behaved so suspiciously. The man was carrying about 554 pounds of cocaine in the trailer of the truck. However, the story gets worse because the illegal drugs were stashed in a load of produce, which is a massive public safety issue. The report says that the drugs were coming from California.
Of course, the only way this traffic stop was ever going to end was with the truck driver in handcuffs. The police took the man to a jail in Navajo County. He is being charged with possession and the transportation of narcotic drugs for sale.
