2 South Carolina men are facing numerous charges after running from police and causing an accident
Traffic stops are a massive reason why police officers are able to stop crime in cities all over the country. However, there are times when drivers try to evade these encounters, which can cause dangerous car wrecks. Recently, police tried to pull over a car for a traffic stop, and the person behind the wheel led them on a chase. Sadly, things didn’t go too well, and now they are in jail.
Running from a traffic stop can cause severe car wrecks
According to WISTV, police officers in Lexington County, South Carolina, recently tried to pull over a car for a traffic stop. The reason for the attempted encounter is unknown, but the report says the person behind the wheel decided to speed off instead of talking to the police. Sadly, this caused a pursuit of the vehicle. During this time, the police say that the car went into a Kroger parking lot and drove in circles before leaving.
Naturally, the police continued trying to make the traffic stop. However, after the person driving attempted to make a right turn, they collided with another vehicle, causing a wreck. This is what led police to be able to arrest the driver of the fleeing car, Joshua D. Riley, 45. However, the passenger, Damion A. Bowers, 39, was able to get away on foot. However, the police on the scene employed the help of another agency, and they were able to arrest him.
Following the traffic stop and car accident, the two men face serious charges. The driver’s charges include reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, expired temporary tags, open container, and simple possession of marijuana. The police are charging the passenger for interfering and resisting. He also has an active warrant.
