Indiana woman is facing a DUI after driving 20 mph over the limit in an Evansville construction zone
There are many reasons for a police traffic stop. One of the most common reasons is speeding, which is also a form of erratic driving. Recently, police officers in Indiana pulled a woman over for this reason and soon learned she had been driving while under the influence. Now, she’s facing a DUI charge, among others, for her reckless behavior.
Not only was she driving under the influence, but the woman was in a construction zone
According to 14 News, police in Evansville, Indiana, noticed a 61-year-old woman driving 53 miles per hour on the Diamond Avenue overpass on April 25th. This was around 8:45 p.m. The officers on the scene had to work to catch up to the woman, but soon did and made the traffic stop. However, before stopping, she turned onto an area of the road that was currently closed for construction.
Once the police made contact with her during the traffic stop, they noticed that she had probably been driving under the influence. Notably, they could smell the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Of course, this is a telltale sign of impairment. After a bit of conversation with the officers, the woman agreed to submit to sobriety testing. She failed the tests.
After the traffic stop, the police arrested and took the woman to jail. She’s facing at least a DUI charge. There may also be some punishment for speeding and then driving in a construction zone that was marked by signage. It’s unclear if this is her first offense. Hopefully, this will serve as a wake-up call because drunk driving can easily lead to fatal car accidents and other tragic situations.
