14-year-old recently committed car theft and led a police chase through three states before being detained
There are many forms of car theft, with some targeting showrooms. However, there are also cases of kids taking cars from family members. This happened recently with a 14-year-old who was described as having a “mental health emergency.” Of course, this involved him evading a traffic stop from the police and going through multiple chases.
The child was safe after evading the traffic stop and going through three states
According to Boston.com, police officers in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, contacted officers from Brattleboro, Vermont. The officers let them know they had responded to a call about a 14-year-old having a “mental health emergency.” However, the child had driven off in a vehicle, and the police believed he was heading for Brattleboro. Of course, they tried to make a traffic stop but couldn’t catch up to the car.
In order to prepare for the child’s arrival, they set up roadblocks along the way she was believed to be heading. However, the report says she drove through the blocks. As they tried to make the traffic stop, the boy hit a police car and came close to striking multiple officers. They then notified police officers in Bernardston, Massachusetts, about the 12-year-old who had committed car theft.
Once in Bernardston, Massachusetts, the officers put down spike strips, successfully forcing a traffic stop. However, the report also says the child caused “significant property damage” in a parking lot. Specifically, this was said to be intentional. According to the report, “The juvenile ended up colliding with several pieces of private property in a Bernardston parking lot, before colliding with a second Brattleboro Police cruiser in that same lot before being boxed in.”
Five different police departments tried to stop the teen driver. Naturally, they took him into custody at the end.
