Most people use their vehicles for normal activities—commuting to work, visiting family and friends, etc. However, many drivers use their cars to commit crimes. This happened recently when two men were arrested after committing a robbery and evading a traffic stop. Of course, this dangerous chase could have caused car wrecks with other people on the road, but things never escalated to that level.

Trying to evade a traffic stop is never a good idea

According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call on December 4th about a grocery store robbery. The caller not only gave a description of the vehicle the suspects were in, but they also had the license plate number. Initially, the caller was in the process of following the robbers, but the police soon took over and tried to make a traffic stop.

As many criminals do, the robbery suspects evaded the traffic stop for as long as they could. However, things took a turn when the driver lost control of the dark-colored Ford SUV. This led him to crash into a pole. Still, this didn’t stop the two men as they began to escape on foot. This was when law enforcement used a helicopter to find the men. They were hiding in two backyards, each within a block of the car accident.

Naturally, the suspects were identified following the attempted traffic stop. One man is Billy Owens, 59, and the other is Patrick Deleon, 49. Police arrested the two men. They are being charged with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, arrest or detention on foot, and theft. As mentioned, causing a police chase is especially dangerous as it could lead to car wrecks with other drivers. Luckily, that didn’t happen in this case.
