The Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan produced by the Hyundai Motor Company. It is priced and sized between the Hyundai Accent subcompact sedan and the Hyundai Sonata midsize sedan.
First released in 1990, the Hyundai Elantra was initially developed to replace the slightly larger Hyundai Stellar model. However, the Stellar instead went on to be replaced by the Sonata nameplate. While known as the Elantra in nearly every international market, the model is sold under the Hyundai Avante nameplate in its home of South Korea.
Currently in its seventh generation, after being redesigned to align with the 2019 Sonata model year restyling, the Hyundai Elantra is available as a gasoline model, a hybrid model, and a performance model under Hyundai’s N-Line division. Its primary competitors in the compact sedan class of vehicles include the Honda Civic, the Kia Forte, the Nissan Sentra, the Subaru Impreza, and the Volkswagen Jetta, among many more rivals.
