Florida street racers are behind bars after driving over 100 mph in Fort Myers
Street racing has become a significant issue for law enforcement across the nation. Not only does it cause car wrecks, but it can also pose dangers for everyone in the vicinity of the illegal race. Recently, Florida police officers conducted a traffic stop on two people and realized they were both committing this crime.
At least they didn’t try to evade the traffic stop by continuing with their street racing
According to WINK News, police officers in Lee County were on patrol duty when they noticed two cars traveling at high rates of speed. In fact, these cars were driving over 100 miles per hour, which is incredibly dangerous. The officers then pulled both vehicles over for a traffic stop and realized they were street racing. Notably, they were aligned side by side. This was on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway In Fort Myers.
The good part of this story is that both drivers, Jean Michael Lopez, 31, and Jazmyn Eve Boldt, 23, submitted to the traffic stop without protest. However, the officer first had to reach similar speeds to catch them, which happened once they reached Airport Haul. From there, the police arrested the two people, whose relations are unknown. They have now been charged with street racing and released from jail on bail.
Street racing carries with it multiple punishments for drivers. For a first offense, the fine ranges from $200 to $2,000. The charge is also a misdemeanor. Drivers could also have their driver’s licenses revoked for up to a year. It’s unclear what offense this instance of street racing is for these two people.
