Recalls are nothing to ignore. While they could be something simple, many of these notices from manufacturers and the NHTSA pertain to serious, even life-threatening problems. In the latest recall from Rivian, faulty turn signals could increase the likelihood of a crash. Fortunately, however, the brand will start replacing front-facing signals at no cost to vehicle owners.

The latest Rivian recall seeks to remedy faulty turn signals that ‘may increase the risk of a crash’

If you’re in a joking mood, you likely think of just one brand when you ponder faulty turn signals. It can be no other badge than that of BMW, and the generalization that owners refuse to signal their turns and lane changes. Now, however, a Rivian recall might open up the EV automaker’s patrons to BMW-ish turn signal ridicule.

It’s part of the NHTSA’s Safety Recall Report 25V387, and it involves nearly 28,000 Rivian R1S and R1T EVs. According to Rivian’s support page, the issue may “fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 and Technical Standards Document 108,” the standards related to “Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.”

Rivian says one or both of the forward-facing turn signals on the R1T pickup truck or R1S SUV may fail to illuminate. The reason? Rivian states that manufacturing issues “from a supplier” are to blame for the faulty lamps.

Despite the assertions of so many poor drivers, turn signals are a vital part of road safety, and the NHTSA doesn’t take it lightly. In the recall report, the safety agency says, “Diminished front turn signal lamp performance may cause reduced awareness of the vehicle’s intent to turn for road users in front of the vehicle. Reduced awareness of intent to turn may increase the risk of a crash. Rivian is not aware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this condition.”

So, what can you do if your vehicle is involved in the Rivian recall? For starters, owners can contact Rivian’s support department at 1-855-748-4265. As with past recalls, Rivian will remedy the issue with “front turn signal lamps that meet current production specifications” at no cost to owners. Owners will begin receiving mailed notifications on July 25, 2025.
