Police Warn About Increasing Thefts for 2 Popular Trucks
Uh oh, pickup owners! This warning is for you. Police in Texas are advising drivers to be careful as two popular trucks are linked to an increase in thefts. They have a certain feature that’s easy to take advantage of.
Police officers notice two trucks with increasing thefts
There are two popular trucks with rapidly increasing rates of theft. They are the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and its twin, the GMC Sierra 1500.
The Roman Forest Police Department in Texas has shared that 40 pickups have been stolen in East Montgomery County during the past two weeks. Eight of them were taken from the Tavola neighborhood.
While this area has been recently impacted, this trend is popular all across the nation, especially for the Sierra. The thieves don’t even have to be tech-savvy to get away with your ride.
They can easily lose the signal from your keyfob to unlock the doors. Then they fire up the engine in under a minute. This method works even if your key fob is inside your home.
According to KHOU, police officers recommend getting software updates from dealerships, but I haven’t found any evidence of anti-theft software updates existing.
Their other tips include parking your trucks in well lit areas and in range of security cameras. After-market anti-theft devices, such as steering wheel locks, wheel locks, and GPS trackers, can be beneficial.
Also, you can keep your keyfob in a tilfoil bag to block the signal or place the key at the back of your home, away from the street.
The Roman Forest Police Department asks that you report suspicious activity or provide related information about the mass truck thefts by calling 713-521-4310.
