Police high-speed chase ends with arrests, $16K, and a machine gun
Anyone willing to flee from the police at triple-digit speeds likely has a reason to do so. For these two 19-year-olds, it was almost certainly the illegal goods in their Audi. Regardless of the reason, police found a worrisome occupant in the would-be getaway car: a machine gun.
Two teenagers with cash and a machine gun led police on a 110-mph high-speed chase
110 mph is deceptively quick. At that speed, a car travels nearly 162 feet per second (fps). That’s a football field in less than three seconds. Like I said. It’s pretty fast. Understandably, then, Indiana State Police wanted to stop a white Audi after they witnessed it going 110 mph on Interstate 94.
Police started by initiating a traffic stop, per Fox 32 Chicago. At first, the wayward car pulled over. As a state trooper approached the Audi, the two teenage occupants took off “at a high rate of speed.” The chase was on.
A high-speed chase ensued and the driver attempted another stop-and-go maneuver to lose the police. Unfortunately for the two young criminals, a semi-truck crashed into them, bringing the chase to an end. Police officers took the driver and passenger into custody and searched the vehicle. They found around $16,000 in cash and a fully automatic Glock 45 handgun.
Now, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) defines a machine gun as “Any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.” Granted, a fully automatic Glock fits that bill. However, a fully automatic handgun like a modified Glock 45 is far from the light and crew-served machine guns used by the military.
For instance, I routinely used the M240B Medium Machine Gun as a US Marine. That weapon fires 7.62mm linked ammunition, a much bigger bullet than the 9mm cartridge that the Glock 45 fires. Frankly, you might get a bit of a shudder from a service member if you called a fully automatic Glock handgun a “machine gun.” However, the Glock 45’s compact size makes for an easily concealable weapon.
