Police chase with stolen SUV in Houston, TX ends in gunfire
A suspect in a stolen SUV refused to give up as police officers attempted to pull him over. He led a police chase through Houston, Texas. After crashing the vehicle the suspect pulled out a gun, forcing officers to react.

The Houston Police Department shared that an officer spotted a stolen SUV off Highway 288 at Reed. They turned on their lights to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver in the stolen Buick decided to flee.
Then a brief police chase ensued until the suspect crashed the Buick near Bacon and Tierwester Village Apartments around midnight. According to ABC 13, the suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran on foot.
As officers chased the man, they realized that the suspect had drawn a gun. An officer told the suspect to put the gun down, but he didn’t listen.
The officer then shot the suspect. It was a nonfatal shot, but the suspect was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Officers immediately administered aid until emergency medical services arrived.
His current condition is unknown. Also, his name has not been released as there is an ongoing investigation into the matter. The name of the police officer who fired the shot hasn’t been released. However, he has been with the force for four years.
Investigators did recover the suspect’s gun at the scene. They are working to put all the different pieces together.
The Houston Police Department is conducting an internal investigation as per protocol. Plus, the police officer’s body camera footage should be released within 30 days. The officer discharged his weapon due to fear for his safety.
