Ohio Woman Chokes on French Fry While Driving, Obliterates Gas Station Canopy
An Ohio woman says she choked on a French fry, causing her to crash into a gas station canopy, which partially collapsed. She then hit another car before finally coming to a stop.
The bizarre accident occurred at a Sunoco gas station in Wilmington, Ohio, at around 12:05 p.m. in the afternoon. The woman’s white sedan narrowly avoided being crushed by the canopy.
According to the crash report obtained by WLWT News, the driver of a 2016 Buick LeSabre told a Wilmington police officer that she passed out behind the wheel after choking on a French fry. She then struck one of the canopy’s four support poles and a parked vehicle.
The 56–year–old driver also told Wilmington police that she didn’t remember hitting another car or the pole. She did, however, report that she has a dry spot in her throat that makes her choke. Other than that, no injuries were reported.
The driver of the Buick LeSabre was cited for failure to control the vehicle, the Daily Mail reported. Following the crash, the business was closed, and the Wilmington Fire Department contacted a building inspector to evaluate the gas station.
Local reaction to the car taking out a gas station canopy
A witness told WXIX News that he saw the woman’s car moving south, drive into the Sunoco parking lot, crash into one of the poles supporting the Sunoco gas station’s canopy, and then hit another car. Other locals who saw the aftermath of the accident on social media were shocked, amused, and saddened.
“Was wondering why I heard sirens,” said one TikTok user.
“I saw this in person, and it caught me so off guard,” read another comment.
“That sucks. I regularly use that store,” another local resident wrote.
“Noooo, that’s one of the good Sunocos,” another lamented.
