Truck driving is one of the most essential professions in modern-day society. Of course, because of this, these drivers are held to a high standard regarding respect for the law. Still, recent trucking news finds that police officers in Ohio conducted a traffic stop on an 18-wheeler and found the motherload of drugs, and now the driver is facing serious charges. 

Being in truck driving does not exempt people from being subjected to a traffic stop

The field of truck driving is important because it’s one of the most common ways to transport goods. However, according to recent trucking news from NBC 4, one driver was recently caught transporting a large volume of illegal drugs. The report says that someone from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on an 18-wheeler. It’s unclear why the officers pulled over the truck. 

During the traffic stop, the police officers on the scene used a K-9 sniffer dog and searched the vehicle and trailer. This search of the truck uncovered an astounding 12 kilograms of cocaine. Of course, this large volume of drugs implies that the driver, Calisto Rio, 52, was transporting the drugs for a criminal enterprise. Police arrested the driver, and he is now in the custody of the Specialized Tactics and Investigative Narcotics Group. 

Following the traffic stop, he was arraigned and received a bond of $500,000 for his felony drug and trafficking charges. However, he can’t leave Ohio if he manages to post the bond. Notably, the man is from Texas. He has a court appearance set for December 19th.
