Nissan Puts Its Eggs in the Xterra’s Basket to Reach One Million Sales
Things haven’t been going so well with Nissan. However, the automaker remains positive and driven. It’s confident that it will reach a million sales by 2027. A lot of pressure is being placed on the Nissan Xterra to make that happen.
Nissan believes the Xterra will help it get to a million sales
It’s no secret that Nissan isn’t doing as well as other Japanese auto brands like Toyota and Honda. In 2025, it experienced a global sales decline of 4.4%.
However, it’s not giving up on the goal to reach one million sales by 2027. In 2025, it sold 878,307 vehicles while Toyota sold 11.3 million. The automaker targets a 10% sales growth for 2026. If it makes it a million, then it will have its strongest year since 2019.
According to CBT News, Nissan will reach this goal by building more trucks and SUVs in America to boost inventory levels. It targets a 50-day supply of vehicles.
Plus, the upcoming Nissan Xterra is expected to drive customer growth at dealerships. Dealers have previewed the new rugged SUV with its body-on-frame platform. It’s benignly described as radical-looking and aggressive.
The new Xterra has retro styling cues that relate to the original model with an updated modern flair to emphasize toughness. It’s being called worth the wait, but it might not enter production until 2028.
It was originally supposed to be an electric vehicle. However, now it will have a hybrid powertrain. Rumors also suggest a V6 engine in the works. A potential plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant could provide up to 75 miles of electric driving range.
It will need a price under $40,000 to compete in the crowded market against popular rivals like the Toyota 4Runner.
