As interest in electric vehicles declines, many automakers are working to go hybrid. Nissan is admittedly a bit behind the hybrid curve as it adds the Rogue PHEV to the lineup. However, it’s an exciting preview of the upcoming Nissan Rogue Hybrid.

The Nissan Rogue PHEV clears the runway for the Rogue Hybrid

Typically, SUVs go hybrid before a more efficient PHEV model arrives. But Nissan is marching to the beat of its own drums. As it pulls back on the Leaf and Ariya in America, it’s still going green.

First, we get to experience the Nissan Rogue PHEV. But this plug-in hybrid model isn’t exactly new. It’s pretty much the exact same as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, only with Nissan badging.

Don’t judge sharing powertrains, as the Toyota RAV4 hybrid and Mazda CX-50 hybrid share the same powertrain. Nissan played around with the idea of partnering with Honda and other automakers for a hybrid setup.

However, it’s developing a new hybrid powertrain for the Rogue in-house. Hopefully, the Nissan Rogue Hybrid E-Power will be out by the end of 2026.

It won’t have the same fuel economy as the more efficient PHEV, which delivers more electric power. However, it will be more affordable.

Pricing for the Rogue PHEV hasn’t been released, but the Outlander PHEV starts at $43,515. The 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid starts at $32,580. That could be a good reference for what to expect for the Rogue Hybrid.

Also, the Rogue PHEV is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a battery and electric motors to generate 248 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.

According to Nissan, it gets an EPA-estimated 64 MPGe and then 26 mpg combined with gas only. The Rogue Hybrid will need to get about 39 mpg combined to be competitive.
