Are you excited because the Jeep Cherokee is returning from the dead again? Stellantis enjoys making Jeep SUVs electric, but the Cherokee won’t be limited to EV powertrains. It’s coming with the freedom of choice.

The new Jeep Cherokee provides multiple engine choices

Stellantis is extremely committed to going green. Options like the Jeep Wagoneer S and Jeep Recon are only available as EVs.

So you may have assumed that the new Jeep Cherokee will be electric as well. However, Stellantis has decided to take a different approach with this classic name plate.

The next-generation Cherokee will be available with gas, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains to provide drivers with the freedom of choice. According to Top Speed, this business strategy allows buyers to pick what’s best for their wants and needs.

Rumors suggest that the Cherokee will have a regular gas-electric hybrid powertrain without having plug-in capabilities. Currently every hybrid Jeep SUV, known as the 4xe models, requires being plugged in.

The gas-powered engine could be a detuned version of the turbocharged Hurricane 3.0-liter inline-six engine. This seems intense as the standard output variant provides 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque.

Also, the new Cherokee will be built on the STLA larger modular platform. It will share components with the Wagoneer S and typical Jeep design cues. For example, the famous seven-slot grille will be paired with a boxy, upright body style.

Expect to see the gas engine arrive first. Then the Cherokee Hybrid will follow. Eventually, the Cherokee EV will complete the lineup. It’s slated to arrive in 2026.
