Getting a motor vehicle inspection is required in most states. This is the case despite many drivers considering this process to be nothing more than a money grab. To make matters worse, US customs agents recently seized many car inspection stickers that they found to be counterfeit. Of course, this shows the lengths many will go to avoid getting a state inspection.

A motor vehicle inspection is supposed to have a purpose

Let’s face it: no one enjoys getting a motor vehicle inspection. It takes time out of people’s schedules, and it’s a cost that many deem unnecessary. Still, it’s required in most parts of the country, even though some states are taking steps to no longer mandate car inspection stickers. According to Jalopnik, US customs agents recently seized about 22,000 counterfeit decals for Pennsylvania.

The report says that they found these car inspection stickers in two separate shipments coming from Israel. In total, this volume of proof for getting a motor vehicle inspection would be worth about $1.4 million if the stickers weren’t fake. Notably, the first shipment arrived on US soil on November 26th and contained 10,000 inspection stickers. The second is from December 9th, with 12,000 counterfeit stickers.

Of course, the agents inspecting the packages believed the large volumes of proof for motor vehicle inspection to be fake. Because of this, they consulted with authorities from Pennsylvania, who confirmed their suspicions. No arrests have been made in the matter. However, it’s important to note that using fake car inspection stickers can gain people a fine of $500 and potentially even jail time.
