Driving under the influence is one of the worst crimes a driver can commit. Not only does this cause several car wrecks each year, but it also shows a lack of respect for public safety. Recently, a Milwaukee man was arrested for this, along with leading police on a high-speed chase to evade a traffic stop. Now, he’s facing a dozen charges for his destructive actions.

He evaded a traffic stop, crashed, and the police found drugs

According to Fox 6 Milwaukee, a police officer was on duty and noticed a vehicle going “at an extremely high rate of speed.” The driver, Armando Olvera, was going 63 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver increased his speed even further, causing a chase.

Naturally, the police officer continued to try to make the traffic stop on the vehicle. Sadly, the driver lost control during a turn and struck a tree head-on. This is when the 25-year-old man tried to run on foot but stumbled and fell, which allowed the police to place him in handcuffs. In total, the chase lasted 1.12 miles, and his speed reached 76 mph. There were four others in the vehicle, some of which had injuries.

Of course, following the traffic stop, things continued to worsen for the driver. The officer on the scene detected the smell of alcohol coming from the man, which means he was probably driving under the influence. Naturally, the police also searched the vehicle. They found multiple open containers, two guns, and a “small baggie with a white powdery-like substance.” The substance tested positive for being fentanyl. He had a $75,000 bond at the time of the incident.

The driver is being charged with the following:

  • Two counts of fleeing/eluding resulting in great bodily harm
  • Two counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle
  • Two counts of second-degree reckless driving
  • Three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety
  • Possession with intent to deliver fentanyl
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Obstructing
