Car theft happens quite a bit. Sometimes, it targets car showrooms and other times, the victims are vehicle owners. However, it’s unusual for emergency vehicles to be taken. However, this happened recently in Tennessee when a man stole an ambulance and then crashed into a police squad car. Of course, this came after he evaded a traffic stop.

His crimes were worse than car theft

According to WREG, police officers in Memphis were recently called to the Methodist South Hospital about a car theft involving an ambulance. This happened on December 18th at around 4:50 am. The ambulance driver says she had been helping a patient when she noticed the vehicle was gone. Of course, they were able to view surveillance footage, which showed the car theft as it happened.

Naturally, this ambulance had a GPS tracking device, and the police officers were able to locate it. They tried to make a traffic stop, but the car theft suspect refused to pull over. This caused a police chase, and they soon deployed stop sticks. Luckily, this popped the tires of the ambulance. However, the emergency vehicle crashed into a squad car before stopping.

Sadly, things with the car theft perpetrator didn’t improve after the traffic stop. The report says he began resisting arrest. The officers took the man to the hospital before taking him to jail. They also learned that his license had been suspended since 2013. Additionally, he is said to have tried to steal a squad car in 2022. Luckily, no police officers were injured during the pursuit.
