Maine man gets hit by SUV and trapped while stealing liquor
45-year-old Ronnie Clark was confronted in the parking lot of a Hannaford grocery store on Sabattus Street for allegedly stealing liquor bottles.
The loss prevention staff saw him take multiple bottles, but he ran from them. He tried to sprint across Highland Spring Road but was suddenly hit by an SUV. He became trapped under it.
By the time police officers responded to the report of a pedestrian trapped under a vehicle, an auto mechanic was using a car jack to lift the 2003 Mazda CX-30 in an attempt to rescue Clark.
According to WMTW, he was pulled out while conscious and alert. Then he was transported to Central Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, but non-life threatening injuries.
Upon further investigation, officers found a stolen bottle of Crystal Head vodka and delivered a summons for the theft to Clark at the hospital.

The driver of the Mazda CX-30 was identified as Kenneth Floyd. It’s unclear how fast he was traveling at the time of the incident. His SUV may have been damaged by the impact. Also, he was unharmed.
Drivers aren’t necessarily at fault every time a pedestrian is struck. It’s the pedestrian’s fault when they are jaywalking, crossing without looking, and crossing illegally.
Clark did run into the road randomly like a deer. But typically the driver is at fault if they disobey the traffic laws, fail to yield, or if they’re driving under the influence.
